FTIR Analysis

FTIR Analysis (Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy) is a technique to identify materials by characterising the spectra, which is collected from raw data when Infrared radiation is passed through or reflected off a sample.

During FTIR testing, it is the Fourier Transform which turns the raw data into actual spectrum which can be studied and analysed. FTIR spectroscopy is used for structural characterization of organic and inorganic molecules in solids, liquids, gases, and on surfaces.

ITA Labs uses a Thermo Scientific Nicolet iS10 for FTIR analysis.

FT-IR analysis results in an absorption spectra which provides information about the chemical bonds and molecular structure of a material. The FTIR spectrum is equivalent to the “fingerprint” of the material and can be compared with catalogued FTIR spectra to identify the material.
